William  Samuel   Highsmith III
Lt. Colonel William Samuel Highsmith III, 85, of Hattiesburg, passed away on February 15, 2017. He was born on November 13, 1931 in Corpus Christi, TX to Zuella Highsmith and Rev. William S. Highsmith Jr. Bill finished school in Texas and served as a pilot and an instructor in the United States Air Force. William was a graduate of Texas A & M University and two other colleges. He retired in 1973 from the Air Force and then worked as an Engineer.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Joan Daughdrill Highsmith; two sons: William S. Highsmith IV, of Austin, TX and Craig Stewart Highsmith of Colorado Springs, CO; one daughter: LeAnne Highsmith Williams of Friendswood, TX; 6 grandchildren and one sister Marydele Porter of Mathis, TX.
The family would like to extend a warm thanks to the staff at Collins State Veteran’s Home for their compassionate care and support.
